Why Harry Potter Is Actually a Photographer

My wife is a huge Harry Potter fan and hasn’t missed a single book or movie. She follows the info on the internet to get peaks into how close the movies will be like the books. She gets lost in the books and movies and she is a huge JK Rowling fan.

So in honor of my wife, JK Rowling and the last Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, I wanted to say that I think that Harry Potter is actually a photographer.  Let me do a little comparison.

  • Harry Potter goes into a situation only having a very general idea of what needs to be done. All he really knows is that the end result will be good.
  • A Photographer goes into a shoot knowing only that he needs good results and has only a general idea of what the situation will be. (Especially true for wedding and event photogs)

  • Harry brings out the best in people like Neville Longbottom.
  • A Photographer needs to make everyone look their best.

  • Harry finds beauty in the oddities like Luna Lovegood.
  • A Photographer loves the joy in finding beauty in the oddest things.

  • Harry has two best friends that will help him through anything.
  • A Photographer often has two assistants that help get them through the hard times.

  • Harry had a mentor that was always there to give advice and help him focus. Then he went and died when Harry needed him most.
  • A Photographer’s mentor is usually there giving advice throughout the beginning of his/her career and when the big new challenging project comes up the mentor is nowhere to be found.

  • Harry’s nemesis is the Dark Lord.
  • A Photographer’s nemesis is darkness.

  • He who must not be mentioned minions are always lurking in the shadows trying to block Harry’s every move and stop him from confronting the Dark Lord.
  •  A Photographer is forever fighting the shadows to overcome the darkness and bring the goodness into the light.

  • Harry is supposed to triumph over the evil Voldemort , and save the world from all that is dark.
  •  A photographer is supposed to shed light on the subject and push out the evil darkness, saving the client from under exposed images.

  • And last but not least Harry Potter can wave his wand and magic happens!
  • A Photographer just presses a button and the client thinks that it is magic!

This is why I believe that Harry Potter is a photographer, Ron Weasley is his assistant and Hermione Granger must be the art director. After all it is her magic and knowledge that brings out the best in Ron and Harry.

I’m not that much of a Harry Potter fan (my things was more Lord of the Rings), but I have to say, you are damn right with your story. He is a great guy after all and – brings light in dark situations. And the comparison with a photographer is just a unique idea. It fits perfectly.
    Thanks for sharing. 😉

    Ha,ha, I like where you’re coming from.
This evening we will be watching Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 on DVD. I just hope it’s better than the last two installments of this long running money generating saga.

I’ve seen several articles where Harry Potter is compared to several people but never a photographer. As a fan of the series and photographer myself I can appreciate this. However, I must point out that Luna’s last name is Lovegood, not Lovejoy.
